Missional Mama's Word of the Year

Intentional was the word for 2011. The goal was trying to be intentional in parenting, homeschooling, being a wife, living as a missionary and so forth. Certainly, I did not arrive as an intentional giant, but it was a year of growth, change, and moving forward.

And then recently, 2012 arrived. Resolutions were not made and life seemed to have speed up with a overflowing calendar. I spent time considering and praying about what to focus on during this promising year. After evaluating my life and year, the word became clear: REST.

This does not mean sleeping and napping more, although getting sufficient shut eye is certainly part of it. It is more along the lines of learning to being still, calm, and dealing with stress in more proactive ways. Resting in God's protection, provision, and order for my days and life is the aim.

The main areas to "REST" are as follows:
  • Getting the amount of sleep the body needs to be healthy, awake, and absent of a cranky attitude.
  • Learn ways to deal with stress.
  • Seek God about what to include in the schedule and the family calendar.
  • Have enough downtime to serve well when homeschooling, keeping home, working, doing ministry and all the little things that come into the hours.
  • Being still and present with God by praying without ceasing and spending time in Bible reading, study, and prayer.
Be still and know that I am God
Psalms 46:10

Rest, that is a good word. I pray that at the end of this year you are able to see and feel how restful it has been. My word for this year is believe. http://lynhallewell.wordpress.com/2011/12/31/one-word-believe/
